Author Name : Dr. Ravneet Sandhu, Jatin Bhardwaj
ABSTRACT
The purpose of the study was to compare the knowledge, attitude, and behaviors regarding hydration and fluid replacement of endurance and resistance trained athletes. A total of 100 physically active individuals (50 males and females) respectively, practicing at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab were considered for the study. The mean age of the athletes participating in this study was 20.24±1.859. The volunteers were then asked to fill out an informed written consent form and were recruited only after its completion. Further the survey was divided in two sections. The first section comprised of demographic questions. The second portion of the survey evaluated an athlete's hydration knowledge, attitude, and behavior. A significant difference was observed between knowledge regarding hydration and fluid replacement among different games with a p-value of 0.000 (at P<0.05). Attitude regarding hydration and fluid replacement was found to be significantly different between gender, game type and games with a p-value of 0.032 (at P<0.05), 0.000 (at P<0.05) and 0.000 (at P<0.05). Behavior regarding hydration and fluid replacement was found to be significantly different between game type and games with a p value of 0.000 (at p<0.05) respectively. The research concluded that apart from having similar knowledge among the two game types i.e., Resistance trained athletes had a better Attitude and Behavior towards hydration and fluid replacement.
