A Cross Sectional Study of Crop Combination of Murshidabad District, West Bengal, India

Author Name : Puspajit Das

ABSTRACT: The present research aims at the analysis of general pattern of crop combination in Murshidabad district. The different methods applied in the delineation of crop combination regions can be summed up fewer than two headings. The first method for the demarcation of crop combination regions is the arbitrary choice method, e.g., the first crop only, the first-two crop only or the first-three crops, etc. The crop combinations delineated on arbitrary choice method are, however, not rational and judicious, as by applying arbitration the rest of the crops grown in the area are irrationally excluded without any consideration of their percentage weightings in the total cropped area. The second method is developed in terms of variables based on certain difference which are relative and not absolute. This method being based on statistical approach is more accurate, reliable and scientific. It is given better objective grouping of crops of a region. The statistical techniques about crop combinations have been modified suitably by the geographers form time to time.
