A review of the medicinal plant Catharanthus roseus

ABSTRACT
Catharanthus roseus synonym: Vinca rosea, Madagascar and periwinkle plant is commonly seen in tropical countries and are native to Madagascar and Southern Asia. This is an evergreen plant first originated from islands of Madagascar. This is a known for its antitumour, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant and anti-mutagenic effect. Catharanthus roseus known as common name for a pair of perennial flowering shrubs belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant almost throughout the tropical country. More famous phytochemicals were isolated from this medicinal plant. It has many pharmacological properties such as anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, wound healing, anti-ulcer, hypotensive, and memory enhancement etc.
This present review evaluates the antibacterial activity, antihyperglycemic activity, cytotoxic activity, antitumour activity and wound healing activity etc.
