A Review on Analysis of Municipal Solid Waste Management in Budhwara area of Amravati City
Author Name : Amir Khan Afsar Khan, Prof. Ms. Tejaswini D. Kadam
ABSTRACT
Waste management and its disposal is the most severe environmental issue all over the World. In the developing country like India, there is a prompt increase in municipal solid waste due to urbanization and population growth. This boom of industrialization, urbanization and population growth is directly correlated with increased solid waste generation. In India, the volume of waste generation has been increasing rapidly over the last few years. According to the “SwachhataSandesh Newsletter” by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India (MoHUA), as of January 2020, 147,613 metric tonnes (MT) of solid waste is generated per day, from 84,475 wards and in Maharashtra itself 22,080 metric tonnes (MT) of solid waste is generated per day, from 7,322 Wards.
Composition of waste varies with different factors like living standard, climatic conditions, socio-economic factors etc. This has gotten out of hand and is now posing a serious threat to public and environmental health. Within India solid waste management predominantly adheres to sustainable development. The waste management rules are generally framed and handled through the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF); however, compliance varies among states. Waste management incorporates entire process from collection and treatment to disposal by various means such as incineration, landfill and other methods, and recycling.
In this work, it is being described the present status, challenges and implementation followed in the waste reduction processes including segregation/ collection, recycling, energy recovery (composting, bio methanation, and bioremediation), land filling of household and industrial waste and its impact on the environment as well as human beings.
