A Study on Effect of Prolonged Usage of Mobile Phone on Hearing Among Dental Students, in Mamata Educational Institute, Khammam, Telangana- A Cross Sectional Study

ABSTRACT
Background- Mobile phones have become an indispensable component of our lives, As the number of base stations and local area network grows, so does the concern about potential health risks associated with exposure to radiofrequency fields emitted by this wireless technology. The primary goal of this research is to investigate the effects of prolonged mobile usage on students.
AIM- To assess the awareness regarding the effects of prolonged mobile phone usage on hearing among dental students .
Objectives- To determine the awareness regarding the effects of prolonged mobile usage on hearing among dental students based on gender.
To determine the awareness regarding the effects of prolonged mobile usage on hearing among dental students based on year of study.
Materials & Methods- A cross sectional study was conducted among 230 students in tertiary care teaching dental hospital, Khammam . A questionnaire was given to students to collect the required information .
Results- Among 230 participants, the majority of study participants (80%) are females. The median age of the participants was 22 and 69.13% of the participants are aware of the problems associated with mobile phone usage. Majority of the participants 34.35% have been using their mobile phones for a period of 3-6 hours.
Conclusion- The pattern of mobile phone usage among the participants revealed alarming evidence that students have addicted to mobile phones. It would be beneficial to advise the participants about proper and controlled use of mobile phones.
