A Study on Expectation for Success and Risk Taking Among Young Athlets

Author Name : M. Neethu, P. Nihal

ABSTRACT: The present study entitled as expectation for success and risk taking among young athletes. The purpose of the study is to understand expectation for success and risk taking among young athletes. A total of 120 athletes were selected as sample with age limit 17 to 25. Random sampling technique was used to draw the sample from the population. The tool used for collection of data was expectation for success scale ( Rathus, S A & Fitchner – Rathus, L (1997) ) and risk taking scale (Garrett (1971)). Data was analyzed using Karl Pearson’s product moment correlation and t-test, correlation is a Pearson correlation coefficient is to measure relationship between variables. T-Test was used to find out the significant gender difference in expectation for success and risk taking among young athletes. The result shows that there is no significant relationship between Expectation for success and Risk taking among young athletes. There is an insignificant difference in Expectation for success between male and female young athletes. There is a significant gender difference in Risk taking between males and female young athletes with males scoring higher than females.
