A Study on Social and Economic Costs of Waste Disposal

ABSTRACT In today's society, which is characterized by the rise of capitalism and is driven by consumerism and industrialization, the problem of waste disposal has emerged as a major concern that has a serious impact on the environment. This research addresses the complex dynamics of waste management and reveals the diverse impacts of waste on society and the economy. Waste management goes beyond simply throwing away unwanted items and involves broader social and economic determinants such as consumption patterns, production processes, and resource allocation. To understand the complexity of waste management, it is essential to comprehensively examine social and economic costs, from public health and welfare risks to resource depletion and economic hardship. Improper waste management has clear social costs, causing environmental degradation through air pollution, water pollution and soil erosion, putting communities at risk. Moreover, the unequal distribution of the waste burden exacerbates existing socio-economic inequalities and increases the level of inequality. This article reviews the relevant literature to contextualize the waste management debate. This includes research into waste disposal methods, economic costs, environmental impacts, and policy implications.The objectives of this study are wideranging to assess the role of technology and innovation in waste management, to explore the social and economic costs of poor waste management, and to improve consumer behavior and public education on waste reduction. The purpose is to investigate the impact of and make recommendations. Aiming for sustainable waste management practices and exploring possible solutions to reduce the social and economic impact of waste.
