A Study on the Customer’s Perception towards Plastic Card Services of Commercial Banks in Coimbatore City

INTRODUCTION
In India, the banking industry has providing more escalation and developments in the economy. It is the second largest technology based industry and contributing more revenues to the nation. The deposit and payment fragments are influenced to growth of the banking services through the innovative services and technological developments. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has formed more committees to regulate the banking activities with uniformity and by utilizing the plastic card services and some other payment options. It has been provided revolution and created more business opportunities through the banking services in India. In particular, the payment segment has mostly helped in an escalation with the entry of more payment banks and small finance institutions. There are several payment modes available in the commercial banks like internet banking, mobile wallets, debit and credit plastic cards. There are interesting dynamics at play in the Indian payment industry, the debit cards have been on upward surge consistently for the past five years. In the financial year 2011-2015, the number of debit cards issue grew at a compound growth rate of 20.70 percent. The last years saw a big jump in the opening of new bank accounts and the issuance of debit cards due to the central government push under Jan DhanYojana, due to which debit card base grew by more than 40 percent in 2014-2015. The credit card segment in India sees greater acceptance among customers in the recent years. According to the world line India card payment report 2014-15, the credit card base grew at 9.8 percent in the years 2013-14. So, the researcher has taken effort to show the customer’s perception on plastic card services of Indian commercial banks. The present study has the customer’s perception towards plastic card services of commercial banks in Coimbatore city.
