A Study to Assess the Knowledge Regarding Oral Health among Mothers of Preschool

ABSTRACT
Introduction: India, a developing country, faces many challenges in render in oral health needs. The majority of Indian population resides in rural areas of which more than 40% constitute children. This main aim of this study is imparting oral health education to mothers regardingoral hygiene of their under-five children who belong to the socio-economically disadvantaged.Dental carries is infectious disease and mother is the major primary source of infection for their children. Children under the age of 5 years generally spend most of their time with parents and guardians, especially mothers, even when they attend preschoolers or nurseries. Poor attitude of parents towards oral health of infants and young children are associated with increase caries prevalence.
Methodology: In this Descriptive research design, 100 mothers of Preschoolers were selected as a sample for the study by using Non- Probability sampling – convenient sampling technique. The data was collected by using structured knowledge Questionnaire to assess the knowledge on oral Health among mothers of preschooler. Data analysis was performed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. SPSS-17 software was used and p value less than 0.05 were considered significant.
Result: It was found that Majority 47.0% mother of preschoolers had good level of knowledge, 38.0% mothers of preschoolers had average level of knowledge, 8.0% mothersof preschoolers had excellent level of knowledge and only 7.0% mothers of preschoolers had poor level of knowledge regarding oral health.
Discussion: in the present study ,Out of 100 mothers, 47.0% mother of preschoolers had good level of knowledgeInformational booklet on Oral health was provided to the Mothers of preschool children to increase the knowledge and practices on Oral health.
