Author Name : Dr. Mangesh M. Bhople, Dr. Reetuja Deshpande
ABSTRACT
College students undergo stress and anxiety before and during their university examination. After the pandemic, this was the first time when the students were facing offline university examinations. Universities are following Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern, and hence students are continuously engaged in some or the other activity along with curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities that can affect the student’s physical and mental health, especially on delayed eating and improper and less sleeping. This pattern was started to be implemented from academic year 2019. The current outgoing batch is the first batch through this pattern. These factors compound over time, leading to even greater levels of stress. The objective of this study is to find out the factors which are responsible for causing examination stress among undergraduates with particular reference to Pune. Pune city in India is a well-known educational hub where students from all over India and the world come for study. A questionnaire was developed by the researchers to assess examination stress and anxiety among college students. The sample consisted of 259 undergraduates from various years of study studying in different colleges across Pune city. The collected data has been examined and evaluated through various statistical tools like chi square test, hypothesis testing etc.
Students undergoing stress must follow stress management techniques to overcome stress. This paper also focuses on stress management techniques which are useful to reduce stress and control stress. It relieves anger, anxiety and negative feelings by practicing techniques like deep breathing exercises, exercise, meditation, healthy diet, proper sleep, developing positive attitude etc.
