An Exploratory Study on Issues and Challenges in teaching Entrepreneurship Courses for Management Students in Indian Universities

ABSTRACT
Present Economic environment in India needs more entrepreneurs than ever before. To propel entrepreneurial culture among young people entrepreneurship course is included right from schools to universities, however teaching courses like entrepreneurship to students in schools & colleges of today is no easy task. There are many issues and challenges faced by teachers who are teaching entrepreneurship courses in India. Though Entrepreneurship Education is emphasised at every level of higher education, courses on these in many universities in India are included as a mere ritual. No special impetus is given in terms of special treatment, allotment of funds and infrastructure. Students are not exposed to practical environment except a few premier institutes. Teachers teaching these courses are often not able to evolve and innovate beyond traditional methods of teaching. Traditional manner of using tools like lectures, notes in teaching are not found effective for courses like entrepreneurship. In many Universities in India, entrepreneurship courses are taught in a stereotypical manner. Teachers involved in teaching these courses are facing various challenges. The present study explores the issues and challenges confronting teachers involved in teaching entrepreneurship courses and suggest some measures to overcome them.
