ABSTRACT Unauthorized parking in urban areas poses significant challenges, often leading to disputes and inefficiencies in parking management. This paper presents ParkAware, an innovative mobile application designed to address these issues by providing a discreet and efficient solution for managing unauthorized parking. Utilizing advanced vehicle number plate scanning technology, ParkAware enables users to anonymously notify vehicle owners to move their vehicles without revealing personal contact information. The app ensures user privacy through encrypted communication, offering pre-defined message templates to streamline the notification process. Designed keeping in mind the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, ParkAware's user-friendly interface allows for quick adoption across diverse user groups, while features such as real-time notifications and a community-driven reporting system enhance the app’s effectiveness in promoting responsible parking behaviour. By democratizing parking management and enabling individuals to take proactive action, ParkAware offers a scalable, secure, and privacy-focused platform to improve urban parking environments and reduce conflicts stemming from improper parking practices.
