An Overview of Anti-Bacterial Effect in Construction Industry
Author Name : Durga Raghavi .T
ABSTRACT: The Anti-bacterial effect in construction industry has a promising change. Concrete, though strongest is a porous and sponge like structure with numerous capillaries open. It is exposed to serious environmental conditions which in the long run, causes various dangerous results. Bacterial effect is the serious one caused by dangerous microbes. Though damaged area on the surface can be removed, still germs will be left over. In order to prevent this, anti-bacterial agents have been developed. These anti-bacterial agents contain copper, silver zeolites and also fibers like amines. These anti-bacterial agents are added to fresh concrete mix in order to avoid effects like corrosion and many more. These products act as toxic agents to fungi, bacteria, gases, salts and others. Many different products like anti-bacterial admixtures, sealants, cement, concrete, paints and tiles have been developed. But still these agents have been used mostly in sewer and drainage systems. They can be used in many fields and have maximum applications. Lack of further research and resources are main issues. Furthermore products have to be developed and applications have to be increased. Most of the cases recorded like using the admixtures in sewers. After studied about them, India is still lacking behind. Knowledge have to be raised about the advantages, applications of these anti-bacterial agents in the industry.
