Analysis of Fish Production in India Using Dummy and Effect Coding Methods
Author Name : Rajani M, Balasubramanian A
ABSTRACT
Various coding methods like dummy and effect coding methods were employed to analyze different fish productions viz., Total Fish Production (TFP), Marine Fish Production (MFP) and Inland Fish Production (IFP) obtained from five coastal states of India during the period 2001-2018. Dummy coding method employed the mean around the type of production of particular reference state Kerala while the effect coding was around the mean of productions of all the states. Mean production estimated in TFP, MFP and IFP using both methods for every state was same and they were 1.41 MMT, 0.78 MMT, 1.469 MMT, 0.574 MMT and 0.672 MMT for the states of West Bengal, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh Tamil Nadu and Kerala respectively. The coefficient of determination (R2) obtained for TFP, MFP and IFP from both models were uniform and their respective coefficient was 0.5255, 0.8463 and 0.7443. This identical R2 and F value obtained revealed that significant difference could be found between the fish productions obtained in different years and states irrespective the model employed. Besides, ANOVA between various fish production also emphasized the significant difference between years and states except between years in MFP. Similarly while conducting ANOVA between states, significant difference could be found between years and fish productions despite no difference between years in the state of Kerala.
