Bhagavad Gita as a Transformational Leadership Model
Author Name : Suresh Kumar Parashar
ABSTRACT The Bhagavad Gita, a revered Hindu scripture, offers profound leadership insights that align with modern transformational leadership theories. Transformational leadership, as conceptualized by Burns (1978) and expanded by Bass (1985), emphasizes the ability of leaders to inspire, motivate, and develop their followers beyond self-interest towards a higher collective vision. The discourse between Lord Krishna and Arjuna in The Bhagavad Gita provides a timeless leadership framework that integrates ethical decision-making, selfless service, and personal transformation. This study examines The Bhagavad Gita as a transformational leadership model, focusing on four key dimensions: Idealized Influence, where Krishna exemplifies moral leadership and personal integrity; Inspirational Motivation, through which he instills confidence and purpose in Arjuna; Intellectual Stimulation, as Krishna encourages critical thinking and independent decision-making; and Individualized Consideration, where he provides tailored mentorship to Arjuna based on his unique challenges.
