Conversion of Food Waste to Healthy Pet Food as a Multi-Pronged Solution to Environmental Crises

ABSTRACT

Food wastage is at the heart of various global crises including environmental resource depletion, food sustainability and waste disposal.  Although there are many solutions that address these issues individually, it is proposed that reutilizing food waste as animal feed and pet food provides a multi-pronged solution to some of these issues.  This study evaluates the viability of this solution by analyzing the data from various scientific studies around the world.  It also evaluates the health concerns that policymakers have with this solution and how those concerns can be addressed, thereby addressing the feasibility of this solution, and also paving the way for public discourse and policy interventions.
