Cross-Sectional Survey to Assess Knowledge, Attitude and Perception of Physiotherapy Exercise in Pregnant Women

ABSTRACT
Objectives: The study tries to assess- the knowledge, attitude and perception of physiotherapy exercises in pregnant women.
Materials and Method: A self-made validated questionnaire was used to conduct a cross sectional survey study, which included 200 pregnant women in any trimester. Questions regarding knowledge, attitude and perception about physiotherapy were asked. Descriptive analysis of the data obtained was done.
Results: Knowledge about the benefits of physiotherapy exercise was low. Attitude towards the practice of physiotherapy was positive but perception about physiotherapy was restricted to exercises (47.5%) and electrical stimulation (18.5%) whereas 11.5% think it is combination of Exercise, massage and electrical stimulation. Majority of women (73.5%) responded that there is necessity to perform exercises whereas 26.5% doesn't feel that it is necessary to exercise.
Conclusions: The knowledge of subjects regarding physiotherapy during pregnancy was low which in return attribute to lack of awareness and wrong perception about physiotherapy exercises. The attitude towards exercise was favorable among the subjects but very few actually practiced. Many women reported that the did not have sufficient information about the physiotherapy exercise.
