Author Name : Subash Dhakal, Suraj Adhikari, Sudip Dhakal, Ram Pratap Mahato, J. Senthil Kumar

ABSTRACT The project is about designing and analyzing of a wing with foldable winglets using morphing technology for enhanced aerodynamic performance and improves fuel efficiency of an aircraft. Winglets are designed to reduce the size of the wingtip vortex by altering the airflow at the tip of the wing. Winglets are typically angled upwards and outwards from the wing, and they work by increasing the effective span of the wing. Foldable winglets are a new type of winglet that can be unfolded and fold to increase lift while reducing drag during takeoff and cruise respectively. Foldable winglet design will reduce the fuel consumption by reducing the aircraft drag and makes the aircraft more stable during flight and also enhance the passenger experience. The development of foldable winglets required a thorough understanding of the aerodynamic principles governing winglet behaviour. Computational Fluid Dynamic simulations were used to optimize the shape of foldable winglets and evaluate their performance. The projects also provide the potential benefits of foldable winglets for airport operations, such as reducing airport congestion and improving gate utilization.
