Educational thought and activism of Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain for the upliftment in status of Women

ABSTRACT Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain was a pioneering feminist writer, educationist and activist in colonial Bengal, who not only fought for upliftment status of women especially Bengali Muslim women, she wrote back to the Muslim conservative barrier, purdah system, child marriage, women’s rights . Upliftment in status of women means autonomy of women in some specific areas i.e economic, education, political and improve their social condition. Her vision was -Education is only key to empower women and the way for betterment of women’s life. She believed in-“Everyone has the right to education”. The objectives of the study is to discuss educational thought and activism of Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain for the upliftment of women. The methodology of the study is used completely documentary analysis. Secondary data collected from different books, research thesis, article, research paper . From the study, we can conclude that Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain one of role model of upliftment in status of women in Bengali Muslim Women, who does not only teaches us how to struggle the barriers of religion , she became a success woman to spread over love and fresh air of true education through her educational thought and activism for upliftment in status of women .
