Effect of Aerobic and Resisted Exercises on Improving Lower Limb Strength in Myocardial Infarction Patients
Author Name : Maruru Sujeer Basha, Prof. (Dr) Ajeet Kumar Saharan
ABSTRACT
Background: Myocardial Infarction is one of the major problem of CVD escalating anually world wide. Rapid urbanization , stress, poor dietary habits, inactive life style are the main reasons for various metabolic cardiovascular diseases. The risk factors associated with MI are the main reasons for all cause death. Lower limb strength and grip strength were considered as the main predictors of cardiovascular diseases. It was evident that there is rapid decrease in muscular strength in post MI patients.
Materials and Methods: 40 subjects were randomly allocated to two groups. Group A; Experimental group (n=20) receiving Aerobic and Resisted exercises. Group B; Control group (n=20). Lower limb strength before and after the intervention in both the groups was assessed with 1RM leg press.
Results: Lower limb strength was significantly improved in experimental group ( 267.6 post mean value ) when compared to control group (253.0 post mean value).
Conclusion: Both the groups showed increased strength in lower limb, but in comparison experimental group showed more gain in strength when compared to control group which concluded that 8 weeks of Aerobic and resisted exercises together when incorporated into intervention would improve muscle strength in post myocardial patients.
