ABSTRACT
The study investigated the effect of Powerpoint presentation on pupils’ interest and academic achievement in public primary schools in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted quasi-experimental research design. The instruments utilized for data collection were Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) and Mathematics Interest Scale (MIS). The reliability of MAT was determined using Kudder-Richardson Formula 20 (KR-20) which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.81 and internal consistency of MIS was determined using Cronbach alpha was yielded 0.83. The data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and Analysis of Covariance to test the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed among others thatpupils taught Mathematics using Powerpoint presentation had higher mean achievement score than those taught using conventional method. It was also found out that there was significant difference in the mean interest scores of pupils taught Mathematics using Powerpoint presentation and that of those taught using conventional method. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that Mathematics teachers should use PowerPoint presentation to teach the Mathematics to stimulate pupils’ interest and academic achievement in the subject.
