Effectiveness of E-Learning Module in Environmental Awareness

ABSTRACT

Human welfarefrom the dawn of civilization has always been dependent on the environment for the sustenance and betterment of life style. During the evolutionary process modernization from Biological man to modern Economic man, he has tried to modify it accordingly. The consequences of such interactions have resulted in different kinds of environmental pollution and degradations, leading to different kinds of environmental hazards and health risks to all the different biological organisms, including human beings. Reduction of the negative impacts and remediation of different environmental issues simultaneouslyare the only way to manage the problems.Environmental Education is a process that creates awareness and understanding of the relationship between humans and their many environments - natural, man-made, cultural and technology. Environmental education is concerned with knowledge, values, attitudes, application and has as its aim responsible environmental behaviour (NEEAC, 1996). In execution of the concepts of Environmental Education, an educator or a teacher has to present different kinds of difficult and complex facts, processes, cause-effect relationships etc., which often require the help of an audio / video / audio-visual learning-teaching aids to complements the oral discussions, presented through a lecture method. In this study the investigator measured the effectiveness of E-Learningmethod over conventional method to promote Environmental Awareness, following aQuasi-Experimental research design. The study revealed that Computer Assisted Instruction with the help of E-Learning module is significantly effective to develop Environmental Awareness among the participants irrespective of their locality of school.
