Effects of Dhupana Karma in Children

ABSTRACT
Dhupana Karma is an integral part of Rakshavidhi, which protection against microbes.We are surrounded by billions of microorganism. Most of them are not harmful, or harmful, which may attack in hosts and children. They may prove harmful in neonatal wards or labour room. Thus proper disinfection and sterilisation is always a major concern especially in neonatal wards. Ayurveda has provided an elaborated explanation of many herbal drugs which may prove to be safe, effective, and lucrative in present settings.traditional fumigation techniques like Dhupana, Homa, and Havana etc. This is also evident from Ayurvedic literature where in fumigation is indicated for sterilisation of operation theatres as well as labour theatres and also in wound management. Taking all these into consideration. Dhupana Karma of plants has also been mentioned for treating Arsha, Jwara, Unmada, Romantika and Shotha etc. Different formulations for Dhupana Karma have been mentioned by Acharya Charaka, Sushruta and Vagbhata.
