Embracing the Abyss of Love and Sexuality: Sartrean Perspectives on the Pessimistic Essence of Human Relationships
Author Name : Dr. Vinitha Mohan
ABSTRACT Jean-Paul Sartre, a prominent existentialist philosopher of the 20th century, is renowned for his humanistic and freedom-centric ideologies. Widely recognized as the philosopher of the common man, Sartre communicated his philosophical ideas to the masses through accessible literary works such as dramas and novels. His focus was solely on the existence of man and the everyday struggles he faces. In contrast to traditional perspectives, Sartre painted a less rosy picture of human beings, portraying them as imperfect, grappling with fear of responsibilities, plagued by anxiety, and at times resorting to self-deception, all of which they are acutely aware of. With the absence of a predetermined essence, Sartre's man enjoys freedom in decision-making and establishing relationships with others.
