Energy Efficient MAC Protocol for Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

Author Name : Manimegalai Munisamy, Krithiga Sukumaran

ABSTRACT

A method known as Cognitive Radio in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) was developed in response to the growing demand for spectrum allotment in ISM bands and the underutilization of some licensed bands. We need to integrate Cognitive Radio into WSN without sacrificing its energy efficiency because WSN typically runs in ISM bands. In this work, we propose an Energy-Aware MAC (EA-MAC) protocol by employing low duty cycled design in WSN nodes and reducing the number of spectrum sensing nodes based on the maximum likelihood of detection. According to the results of the simulation, the suggested EA-MAC has a significantly higher probability of detection and less false alarms than hybrid cooperative spectrum sensing approaches based on Eigen-value and cyclo-stationary.
