ABSTRACT
In present study groundwater quality of Rooma, Industrial area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh has been analyzed using Water Quality Index (WQI). For, this 20 groundwater samples has been collected and analyzed in the laboratory as per APHA (2012). For calculating WQI nine parameters has been analyzed such as pH, TDS, TA, Th, C, SO4, F, Ca and Mg. After calculating WQI values ranges from 10-40, which was classified as under Excellent, Good, Moderate, Poor, Very Poor and not suitable for drinking purpose. And after analysis it was found that most of the samples were fall under moderate and good quality class of WQI and few samples fall under poor class of WQI, Which indicates groundwater quality of present study is suitable for drinking purpose. At present there is no influence of Industrial activity was found in the quality of groundwater. But, to maintain this qulity, there is a need to monitor this natural resource regularly. It can also be seen that the earlier WQIs are either theoretical or statistical in nature and a delicate balance of both approaches is the need of the hour.
