ABSTRACT
Micro particles offer a new approach to improve an aqueous solubility of BCS class-II drugs. Fenofibrate(FNO) is a third- generation fibric acid derivative belonging to this class, employed clinically as a hypolipidemic agent to lessen the risk caused by atherosclerosis. The objective of this research work was to enhance bioavailability of Fenofibrate by micro particulate drug delivery system. The factorial batches of the FNO micro particles were formulated by emulsion solvent diffusion technique using32 factorial design with variables X1- Speed of homogenizer and X2- concentration of ethyl cellulose. Formulations were evaluated for, flow properties, particle size, percentage yield, drug entrapment efficiency, surface morphology and in vitro drug dissolution studies. Significant improvement in the aqueous solubility of the drug in the FNO micro particles supports the applicability of microparticles as a tool for improving aqueous solubility of the BCS class-II drugs.
Key words: Fenofibrate, microparticles, emulsion solvent diffusion, Dissolution rate.
