Formulation and Evaluation of Nasal Gel Containing Sumatriptan Antimigraine Drug

ABSRTACT

The purpose of this study was prepare nasal gel of sumatriptan. The HPMC K4M and carbapol are used as mucoadhesive agent. The drug was evaluated for preformulation parameters, melting point, colour, solubility in different solvents. The physicochemical compatibility of drug with other excipients used in formulation was studied by FTIR analysis. The drug kept in desiccator for one month before the FTIR analysis for the accurate results and the accurate functional group detection. The results obtained showed no physicochemical incompatibility between the drug and other excipients used in the formulation. The prepared gel was evaluated for different parameters, physical parameters such as clarity, pH, viscosity, measurement of gel strength, mucoadhesive strength, drug release studies done by diffusion cell method. In vitro permeation study was done. UV spectroscopy of drug was done in different solvents as drug was soluble in water and methanol hence both the solvents were used as solvents in UV spectroscopy method. Drug content study stability testing study of gel were done.
