ABSTRACT
Under the Shadow of Militancy: the Diary of an Unknown Kashmiri represents the dramatic events that took place during 1990s in Kashmir. It brings to fore the negative consequences of militancy. The general Public including both Hindus and Muslims suffer due to the ongoing insurgency and turmoil. Kashmiri Pandits though do not take part either in following the armed struggle of militants or standing against them yet suffer the atrocities and brutalization by militants. Even the governments, be it of the centre or sate, remain cold towards the hurt sentiments and killings of Kashmir Pandits. Tej N. Dhar artistically knits together tales of the agonies of Kashmiri Pandits. The memoir is in the form of a diary, written in the first person narrative which corresponds to the real events and miseries of Kashmiri Pandits at the hands of militants in Kashmir. The diary is replete with the incidents of killings, bloodshed, tortures, atrocities, sufferings, agonies, pain, alienation and existential interrogations.
