Geographical and Socio-economic characteristics of Rural Village in Mizoram:An Overview
Author Name : Lalmalsawma Ralte
Finding the geographical facts and understanding how the phenomena in a region or area interacted and were connected, particularly in connection to human activities and settlements, requires field studies and field observations, which are crucial for anybody studying geography. This is a modest attempt to show the impacts of the environment on individuals, specifically mentioning the chosen community. Therefore, the study's primary focus is on human factors, including their behaviours and economic issues. Through in-person topographic analysis, we might potentially uncover hints about how people have responded to their physical surroundings. This makes the study of geography in job settings extremely significant. However, without human beings, this field of study would fall short because they are the primary agent capable of altering the physical world's surroundings. The degree of development achieved by the inhabitants of a certain area can influence the degree of change in the physical environment. The objectives of the present study was to: (i)find out the population structure of Thaltlang village (ii) To find the socio-economic conditions of Thaltlang village and (c) To examine the difficulties and problems faced by the inhabitants of Thaltlang village. The study reveals that for the majority of the inhabitants in Thaltlang village, agriculture is their main source of income. However, utilising customary methods of cultivation, the peasants continued to engage in rudimentary agriculture. Because the villagers seldom employ current farming techniques and lack the resources to purchase the required equipment, their agricultural outputs are not up to par. This is due to their ignorance of contemporary agricultural practices. Conversely, they are unable to obtain agricultural loans from non-governmental organisations or the government due to a lack of appropriate documentation proving their ownership of land and other holdings. Another prevalent issue is inadequate irrigation.
