Author Name : Dr Mohini Abreo, Dr Nazish Zareen, Dr Vandana Pandit, Prof Prabha Sinha
Interstitial ectopic pregnancy is defined as the presence of gestation sac in the uterine part of the fallopian tube. It is a rare event and occurs in 2-4 % of all tubal ectopic pregnancies however, is associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. (1,2)As the pregnancies are implanted in the interstitial portion of the tube it is also called interstitial pregnancy. The diagnosis can be very difficult clinically as significant maternal haemorrhage very quickly leads to hypovolaemia and shock. Sometimes ultrasound imaging can also be misleading. (3)
Clinicians should be aware of the interstitial pregnancy which can lead to severe haemorrhage and leading to maternal mortality. (4)
