Intra-Afghan Peace Process, Issues and Challenges: Post-2014 Analysis

Author Name : Alireza Rasouli, Dr. Shiv Kumar

ABSTRACT

Afghanistan's war on a regional and international scale has made the country a battleground for twenty years. The United States, Pakistan, Iran, Russia, China, the European Union and India are among the countries directly or indirectly had been involved in this war. The Taliban act as a proxy group serving Pakistan's strategic and national interests, and the United States is simultaneously involved on two fronts: the Taliban and Pakistan. Like war, Afghanistan's peace talks have regional and international dimensions. Some countries are seeking the defeat of NATO and some are concerned about the security of their interests in this country. Beside the external interventions, internal problems, ethnic divisions, and the government's tribble’s policies have also complicated matters. In this sense, twenty years of US presence have neither succeeded in state-building nor nation-building in Afghanistan, so a complex peace and war lies ahead for Afghanistan.
