Investigating Gender Differences in Depression among College Students in Bangalore

Author Name : Ananya Chakraborty, Keziah Mary Sam, Mohamed Yousuf Pothakani

ABSTRACT In light of global epidemiological shifts, this study focuses on the prevalence and impact of depression among college students, examining gender and marital status as significant variables. Mental disorders, including depression, are increasingly recognized as pivotal factors affecting academic performance and overall well-being. The study aims to assess the prevalence of depression among male and female college students, comparing levels between these groups and evaluating correlations with gender. There is evidence suggesting a reciprocal relationship between mental health and academic performance, where poor academic outcomes can exacerbate mental health issues, perpetuating a cycle of underachievement and distress.
