Isolation of Endophytic Bacteria from Catharanthus Roseus (L.) G. Don for their Antimicrobial Susceptibility

Author Name : Azra Yasmeen, Rajasamarsen Modi

ABSTRACT Endophytic bacteria are a class of endosymbiotic microorganisms that live in internal plant tissues of apparently healthy host plants. The Catheranthus roseus is a potent medicinal plant and widely growing in this region used for minimizing blood sugar by local people. 19 extract were recovered from leaf explants and characterized by cultural and microscopic analysis result shows that 6 isolates belong to Group-I of Bacilli. 11 are Gram positive cocci and 2 positive Bacilli rods. The Antibiotic susceptibility test was done for all endophytic bacteria obtained from leaf extract using five different antibiotic kits and carried out according Kirby –Bauer disc diffusion method revealed that no extract is sensitive to all 5 anitibiotic used. But 6 were sensitive to Ampicilin, 8 to Gentamycin 7 to Chloromphenical 6 to Erythromycin and 04 to Ciprofloxin.
