Knowledge, Attitude and Awareness Regarding Health Information Technology- Related Patient Safety Measures Among Undergraduate Dental Students

ABSTRACT
Background : Health information technology(health IT) has potential to improve patient safety but its implementation and use has led to unintended consequences and new safety concerns. So, it is necessary to provide awareness among undergraduate dental students regarding health information technology-related patient safety measures. This study mainly aims at the safety measures in health information technology among the dental students between 20 to 25 years of age in khammam.
Aim: To assess the knowledge, attitude and awareness towards Health information technology-related patient safety measures among undergraduate dental students.
Method: A cross sectional study was conducted among the dental students (III ,IV ,interns) in a tertiary care teaching hospital ,khammam, using a web based tool called forms pro, a semi-structural online questionnaire was designed and distributed to the students in order to fill .Descriptive statistics and chi-square test were calculated using SPSS verson-29..A p- value <0.05 was used to evaluate statistical significance.
Result: A total of 247 students took part with females (71.66%) and males(28.34%).Age of participants range from 20-25.In this study female students have more knowledge and awareness regarding Health information technology-related patient safety measures compared to male students. Interns have more knowledge followed by IV year students, followed by III year students.
Conclusion: the study result suggests that Health information technology-related patient safety measures awareness level is adequate.
