Mentorship-Driven Strategies for Mitigating Flight-Related Fear and Stress

Author Name : Oleg Aframchuk

ABSTRACT Fear of flying (aviophobia) affects up to one-quarter of airline passengers, creating significant challenges for both travelers and aviation professionals. Moreover, novice pilots often experience heightened stress from intensive training demands and performance pressures. This article offers a systematic review of the literature on flight-related anxieties, discussing their psychophysiological underpinnings and the specific stressors faced by pilot trainees. Drawing on recent studies from NASA and other industry sources, we examine mentorship as a crucial element of pilot education, demonstrating how guided feedback, behavior modeling, and structured psychological interventions can significantly lower error rates and anxiety levels.
