Monitoring Of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Infection in Post Renal Transplant Patients by Real Time PCR Assay

ABSTRACT The objective of the present study is to establish specific real time PCR assay for detection of CMV DNA in clinical specimens and the factors that may influence interpretation of test results.The specimen for the present investigation is Blood samples collected from 15 immuno compromised renal post-transplant patients from Nephrology department, Hyderabad. The patients are under the treatment of immuno suppressor drugs. The samples were processed for CMV DNA extraction and real time PCR.Out of 15 patients, eight patients are normal and not detected for CMV DNA. But seven patients are Positive for CMV DNA indicating the opportunistic infection due to immunosuppression.CMV monitoring in post renal transplant patients revealed that hygienic environment is highly essential to avoid opportunistic infections. The study identified that female patients are more cautious and careful in maintaining hygienic conditions.
