Narrative Techniques and Executive Ability in Anita Desai‟s Selected Works

ABSTRACT The Paper focuses her novels upon the personal struggles of her Indian characters to cope with the problems of contemporary life. The paper highlights Desai’s narrative techniques such as characters' inner state, narration, use of symbols, imagery and symbolism, Nostalgia as a narrative technique and structure. The paper explores the concealed motives of man and unvisited section of human psyche. Anita Desai's experimental novels explore language, form, and themes as isolation, feminine identity, frustration and interpersonal relationships. Desai explores the inner worlds of her protagonists and portrays the themes of gender bias, identity and femininity.
