National Commission for Women: An Overview

ABSTRACT The National Commission For Women Act, 1990, an autonomous body has been set up by the Central Government to be called the National Commission for women. This Commission functions at national level, however, most of the States have also constituted commission to be known as the State Women’s Commission. The National Women’s Commission and the State Women’s Commissions perform similar functions.These Commission’s render assistance to women who are in distress. In keeping with the view to deal with the complaints most of the State Commissions have constituted “complaint cells”.
