Optimization of green sand casting process parameters of an Aluminium alloy by applying Taguchi’s method

Author Name : K Abhishek, Dr Shubhrata Nagpal

ABSTRACT A206 is one of significant industrial aluminum alloys, its special mechanical properties such as strength and ductility has makes it used in varying applications. In this present investigation is to optimize the sand casting process parameters of the castings manufactured in a foundry by maximizing the signal to noise ratios and minimizing the noise factors using Taguchi method. In this investigation the process parameters selected for the sand casting are Ultimate tensile strength (MPa),Impact test (J) and Rockwell Hardness number(nu). The Taguchi approach is used to find the signal to noise ratio of the experiments based on the orthogonal array (L18) used to find the Optimum condition. It is also used to verify the result, which indicated that this method is more efficient in determining the best casting parameters.
