Performance of mustard to different planting pattern as influenced by crop weed competition
Author Name : Singanaboina Chandra, Dr. Supreet Saajan
ABSTRACT Rapeseed and mustard (Brassica juncea L.) are the most important rabi oilseeds in India, and . Brassicaceae in the genus Brassica and the family Brassicaceae includes the rapeseed-mustard crop. India contributes world’s 28% acreage and 20% production of rapeseed–mustard (Shekhawat et al., 2012). Among all other oil seed crops mustard is the most important oil seed crop. They play extensive role in economy of India. Various biotic and abiotic variables limit the yield of mustard. Weed control methods and planting patterns are two of the many elements that influence mustard productivity. When crops are planted on ridges or beds, plant arrangements not only help to boost agricultural yield, but they also aid to decrease weed infestation and save water. Spacing aids in the conservation of natural resources such as water, light, and nutrients. The production and growth characteristics are influenced by the various planting pattern strategies. The quantity of leaves, branches, siliqua per plant, seed/siliqua, oil quality, and yield qualities of mustard are all reduced when weeds infest the crop. Chemical weed control methods and planting on raised beds plays an important role in Integrated Weed Management to increase mustard yield. One of the key factors affecting mustard productivity is the weed. Weeds are responsible for up to 45 % of mustard output losses.
