Pharmacological Evaluation of AKM® for Antidepressant Activity

ABSTRACT
Depression is major mental disorder which is life threatening and fatal, every years millions of people were affected by depression due to their social-life and environmental conditions. The different category of allopathic medications is available for depression, also many times failure of synthetic chemical antidepressant due to its side effects so the physicians have not choice in different allopathic antidepressant. In other hand physicians have wide range of choice in herbal antidepressant instead of allopathic medication, due to laser or nullified side effect of herbal antidepressant are get more popular. On these basis the herbal formulation AKM® syrup in Indian market containing most of antidepressant drugs compositions hence we had evaluated the potency of AKM® syrup as antidepressant by experimental design 0.2ml/kg p.o. and 0.4 ml/ kg p.o. in two groups of mice containing six animal in each group then it compared with standard drug Imipramine 5mg/kg i.p. injected intraperitonieally and normal groups treated with 0.5ml / kg. p.o. Then evaluate the TSM, and FST, HBT, LA. Followed by these methods antidepressant activities were evaluated. The AKM® syrup produces significant antidepressant activity and was similar to more than Imipramine synthetic antidepressant. Whereas on this study it was found that, the AKM® syrup was more potential antidepressant herbal formulations.
