Pregnancy and Periodontal Diseases the correlation

ABSTRACT
With time there has been an increase in the incidence of periodontal disease and pre term low birth weight (PLBW). Peridontal disease has been prevalent in 10 percent of the population. Periodontal disease results in increase in IL 6 and TNF α which may result in early term pregnancy which could result in PLBW. Porphyromonas Gingivalis which is a contributor of periodontal disease has been detected in fetus of pregnant ladies delivering PLBW babies. Prostaglandin is elevated in both periodontal disease and pregnancy. This article after reviewing the path physiology of the periodontal disease and the evidence present can safely say that that there is significant correlation between PLBW and periodontal disease
