ABSTRACT
Medicinal plants represent a rich source of anti bacterial agents. The traditional medicine involves the use of different plant extracts of bioactive constituents. Ficus is a huge tropical deciduous or evergreen tree with more than 800 species. Ficus benghalensis is considered as medicinal plants worldwide. Medicinal plants are chief antidote for numerous diseases and have been used since time immemorial. The objective of the present work is screen the various phyto chemicals from the aqueous, methanol, hexane, benzene, acetone, butanol, chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts of aerial roots of Ficus benghalensis. The extracts were subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening using standard procedures. Different extracts of aerial roots of Ficus benghalensis were found to contain various secondary metabolites like alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, protein, tannins, quinones, saponin, amino acids, carbohydrates, sterols, glycosides, steroids, phalobatanins, terpenoids, coumarins, antraquinones. The phytochemicals generated data from the different extracts of Ficus benghalensis may be used as tools for quality control of drugs in the future, for the healing of a diversity of disease conditions.
