ABSTRACT
There is an expansion in the transmission and generation capacity of the existing power system due to steady increase in the demand for electric power. Flexible ac transmission system (FACTS) is now being extensively used for voltage stability and dynamic stability of the existing transmission sector. Static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), a member of FACTS family has become a leading device for reactive power compensation and voltage stability improvement of the system performance. This paper deals with design, simulation and testing of hybrid static var compensator. They are designed to be applied on the existing scaled down laboratory model of long transmission system. For energized secondary system as STATCOM PV-system is used. Hence, PV-STATCOM improves system stability by using solar energy
