Quantitative Estimation Phytoconstituents from Soymida febrifuga by UV Spectrophotometrically
Author Name : Bhagvan C. Kachhava
ABSTRACT
The present study mainly highlights the quantitative estimations of total phenolics, flavonoids, alkaloids and steroids present in Soymida febrifuga leaves. The studies were carried out according to standard procedures. The quantitative estimation of secondary metabolites present in a crude extract helps the researchers to check purity of drug. This investigation is carried out by UV/Vis. spectrophotometrically. The estimation of total phenolics was carried out by using Folin-Ciocalteu method using gallic acid as a standard, Aluminium chloride method was used for estimation of flavonoids, total alkaloids were precipitated in sample by Drangendorff method using atropine as a standard and finally quantity of steroids was estimated by Liebermann-burchard color reaction method by using cholesterol as standard. This investigation revealed that the total phenolic content was found to be 13.53 ± 0.34 (%) (Pet. ether extract), 20.69 ± 0.51 (%) (Chloroform extract) , 21.76 ± 0.21 (%) (Methanol extract). Total flavonoid content was found to be 15.83 ± 0.18 (%) (Pet. ether extract), 19.09 ± 0.19 (%) (chloroform extract) , 23.8 ± 0.06 (%) (Methanol extract). Total alkaloids content was found to be 19.22 ± 0.03 (%) (Pet. Ether extract), 05.26 ± 0.04 (%) (Chloroform extract). Total steroids content was found to be 22.53 ± 0.04 (%) (Pet. ether extract), 24.06 ± 0.13 (%) (Chloroform extract).
