Reinterpreting American History: Comparing the American and Haitian Revolution in Light of Recent Historiography

The American Revolution (1776), the French Revolution (1789) and the Haitian Revolution (1792) form an intimate trilogy that seeks explanation from a historical point of view. Historians generally club them together as “Atlantic Revolutions but it leaves the problematic rather untouched. It glosses over important differences that should be explained over before any general link can be maintained. It would appear that the French Revoluion was much more far reaching than the American Revolution. It inspired the Haitian Revolution which was the first anti-colonial, anti-slavery revolution.
