Role and Impact of Digitalization on K12 Education in India: Opportunities and Challenges for Edtech Start-Ups

ABSTRACT: The advent of the Internet has transformed the efficiency and productivity of every sector in the economy, and the education sector is no different. The adoption of smart boards in the classrooms and the use of laptops or mobile phones have made the learning process more enjoyable. One of the significant revolutions has occurred in the form of growth of ed-tech start-ups that offer online courses to the students. In this context, the present study examines the impact of opportunities and challenges in digitalization on the scope of learning in the K12 education system with respect to the growth of edtech start-ups in India. For this purpose, the researcher gathered the data from 106 representatives in 20 edtech start-ups in India. The results indicated that those online courses are being widely used as it offers quick completion of the course. Additionally, through the use of advanced technological software, the online platforms offer the facility of instant feedback for the online exams. However, the adoption, procurement and use of technology continue to be one of the major challenges for the expansion of digitalization in the education system.
