Scaling Techniques and Questionnaire Design for Research Work: Some Stances
Author Name : Sudarshan Roy
ABSTRACT
What is unseen that can be unearth by research. Simply by searching repetitively we can discover and also find out many new things. Research relates to the fact to see what everybody has seen and is to think about what nobody else has thought about. Scaling technique is nothing but a method of insertion of respondents which is an extension of gradual change in the pre-assigned values. It may be a symbol or even number which is based upon the features of a specific object as per the distinct rules. In any survey, the researcher when uses the questionnaire to pleat evidence from the respondents to know about the research questions. Thus, in research work the design of questionnaire is very important for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy level of the data, thus this data is collected for the purpose of analysis, so as a result one gets the actual results. Here in this endeavour an attempt has been taken, to elaborate the concept of scaling techniques and questionnaire design for the purpose of research work, quantitative data and qualitative data, descriptive statistical method, inferential statistical method, advantages and disadvantages of quantitative data, differences between quantitative data and qualitative data, classification of measurement scales, goodness of measurement scales, sources of error in measurement, techniques or developing measures tools, scaling, the scale classification bases, scaling techniques, characteristics of nominal scale, characteristics of ordinal scale, advantages of ordinal scale, advantages and disadvantages of internal scale, characteristics of ratio scale, advantages of ratio scale, deciding the scale. Though the primary objectives of this study are to make the researcher familiar with the scaling technique and preparing questionnaire design for research work, the endeavour has made an attempt to make the researcher familiar with scaling technique and questionnaire design. It will also discuss various outlooks on scaling technique and questionnaire design for research work.
