ABSTRACT

The Aligarh Movement was a major literary, scholarly and social reform movement in India. Especially in the case of literature, the scope of its influence proved to be very large. This trend led to a change in the diversity of subject matter and style in literature, and the effect of this change was noticeable in the case of literary genres. The Aligarh Movement affected every section of Indian society through Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and his associates' efforts. In literature, in particular, this movement included several literary genres belonging to the West. Among those who have contributed to the field of natural poetry in Urdu are Muhammad Hussain Azad and Hali, who remained active members of the movement throughout their lives. Deputy Nazir Ahmed laid the foundation of novel writing in Urdu and Shibli Nomani presented biography in a modern way. Mohsin-ul-Mulk, Waqar-ul-Mulk and Maulvi Chirag Ali, also took an active part in this movement. Deviation from the style of ancient poetry was also a part of this movement. Modern critics of Urdu are also indebted to this movement. Biography, fiction, modern natural poetry and essay writing are all the result of the Aligarh movement's reform efforts. This article seeks to cover the educational, literary, social, economic, political and religious services of the Aligarh movement, which has given a strong impetus to modern trends in Indian Muslims.
